SYSTEMS PERFECTLY DESIGNED
This is a stop motion piece I did for my final studio project. We were asked to take a colleagues project and do an iteration of it in our own style. My friend Sara had done a series of beautiful still and motion studies with her favorite medium, cut paper, and a typeface she designed earlier in the semester. I took her work to the next level with this piece and married it with tracks from Glenn Gould’s “Goldberg Variations,” an initial inspiration for the assignment.

STRANGER DINNER PARTY
As a response to the prompt create a non-linear narrative, I asked some friends to invite their friends to my house for a dinner party. The catch was that my friends weren’t invited. The evening was a terrific success and my guests stayed past midnight. Everyone left with a ‘how-to host your very own stranger dinner party’ information packet complete with invitations, instructions and reply cards for their guests. This was an exploration of ‘planned serendipity’, a term and technique I’m interesting in cultivating further.

THE SYSTEM IN PLACE IS PERFECTLY DESIGNED FOR THE RESULTS YOU ARE GETTING
This was one of my first projects from studio, I created this short film to document my response to create a linear narrative. I had come across the quote, “the system you have in place is perfectly designed for the results you are getting,” as I passed a church in north Providence and thought that it perfectly exemplified many thoughts I have about acknowledging responsibility.

RESPOND DESIGN
Respond Design is RISD’s student-led sustainability group. We foster a lasting commitment to environmental and social justice by sponsoring multi-disciplinary events, exhibitions and competitions. Currently, I’m the graduate coordinator and my personal goal is to make the group a truly sustainable organization. To that end, we’re laying the groundwork for an annual film and lecture series that confront the very definition of sustainability, in addition to our ongoing programming. It is critical to our mission to have a realistic perspective and honest conversation about what is relevant in the world around us.
